Translation

✧ Hishām's victory over his two brothers and Maṭrūḥ In this year, Hishām b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, the ruler of al-Andalus, finished with his two brothers Sulaymān and ʿAbd Allāh, and expelled them from al-Andalus. When his mind was free of them, he turned his attention to Maṭrūḥ b. Sulaymān b. Yaqẓān and dispatched a large army against him, placing over them Abū ʿUthmān ʿUbayd Allāh b. ʿUthmān. They marched against Maṭrūḥ, who was in Saraqusta (Zaragoza), and besieged him there but did not capture him. Abū ʿUthmān then withdrew and encamped at the fortress of Tarasūna (Tarazona), near Saraqusta, and sent out his raiding parties against the people of Saraqusta, making incursions and cutting off supplies from them. Then one day, near the end of the day, Maṭrūḥ went out hunting. He released a falcon at a bird and it caught it. Maṭrūḥ dismounted to slaughter it with his own hand, accompanied by two of his companions with whom he had separated from the rest of his men. They killed him, cut off his head, and brought it to Abū ʿUthmān. He then marched to Saraqusta, whose people wrote to him offering obedience. He accepted it from them, went there, and entered the city. He sent the head of Maṭrūḥ to Hishām.
