Then the year 157 AH began
وَفِيهَا: عَرَضَ الْمَنْصُورُ جُنْدَهُ فِي السِّلَاحِ وَالْخَيْلِ فِي مَجْلِسٍ اتَّخَذَهُ عَلَى شَطِّ دِجْلَةَ دُونَ قُطْرَبُّلَ، وَأَمَرَ أَهْلَ بَيْتِهِ وَصَحَابَتَهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِلُبْسِ السِّلَاحِ، وَخَرَجَ هُوَ وَهُوَ لَابِسٌ دِرْعًا وَقَلَنْسُوَةً تَحْتَ الْبَيْضَةِ سَوْدَاءَ لَاطِئَةً مُضَرَّبَةً.
Translation
✧ In it (the year 157 AH), al-Manṣūr reviewed his army in arms and horses in an assembly he held on the bank of the Tigris below Quṭrabbul, and he commanded his family and companions on that day to don arms. He came out wearing a coat of mail and a black, close-fitting, padded cap beneath the helmet.
