Then the year 156 AH began

وَفِيهَا عَزَلَ الْمَنْصُورُ الْهَيْثَمَ بْنَ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنِ الْبَصْرَةِ، وَوَلَّى عَلَيْهَا قَاضِيَهَا سَوَّارَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، فَجَمَعَ لَهُ بَيْنَ الْقَضَاءِ وَالصَّلَاةِ، وَجَعَلَ عَلَى شُرْطَتِهَا وَأَحْدَاثِهَا سَعِيدَ بْنَ دَعْلَجٍ، وَرَجَعَ الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ إِلَى بَغْدَادَ، فَمَاتَ فِيهَا فَجْأَةً فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ، وَهُوَ عَلَى بَطْنِ جَارِيَةٍ لَهُ، فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ الْمَنْصُورُ، وَدُفِنَ فِي مَقَابِرِ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ.

Translation

✧ In this year al-Manṣūr dismissed al-Haytham b. Muʿāwiyah from al-Baṣrah and appointed over it its judge, Sawwār b. ʿAbd Allāh, thus combining for him the judgeship and the prayer. He placed Saʿīd b. Daʿlaj over its police and criminal cases. Al-Haytham b. Muʿāwiyah returned to Baghdād and died there suddenly in this year, while he was on the belly of a slave girl of his. Al-Manṣūr prayed over him, and he was buried in the cemeteries of Banū Hāshim.
