Then the year 153 AH began
وَفِيهَا خَرَجَتِ الْخَوَارِجُ مِنَ الصُّفْرِيَّةِ وَغَيْرِهِمْ بِبِلَادِ إِفْرِيقِيَّةَ، فَاجْتَمَعَ مِنْهُمْ ثَلَاثُمِائَةِ أَلْفٍ وَخَمْسُونَ أَلْفًا، مَا بَيْنَ فَارِسٍ وَرَاجِلٍ، وَعَلَيْهِمْ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ الْإِبَاضِيُّ، وَأَبُو عَادٍ، وَانْضَمَّ إِلَيْهِمْ أَبُو قُرَّةَ الصُّفْرِيُّ فِي أَرْبَعِينَ أَلْفًا، فَقَاتَلُوا نَائِبَ إِفْرِيقِيَّةَ، فَهَزَمُوا جَيْشَهُ وَقَتَلُوهُ، وَهُوَ عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ ابْنِ أَبِي صُفْرَةَ الَّذِي كَانَ نَائِبَ السِّنْدِ فَعَزَلَهُ الْمَنْصُورُ عَنْهَا بِسَبَبِ مُبَايَعَتِهِ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حَسَنٍ، وَوَلَّاهُ هَذِهِ الْبِلَادَ فَقَتَلَتْهُ الْخَوَارِجُ، رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ، وَأَكْثَرَتِ الْخَوَارِجُ الْفَسَادَ فِي الْبِلَادِ، وَقَتَلُوا الْحَرِيمَ وَالْأَوْلَادَ، وَآذَوْا عَامَّةَ الْعِبَادِ.
Translation
✧ In this year the Kharijites, from the Sufriyyah and others, rose in the lands of Ifriqiyyah. Three hundred and fifty thousand of them gathered, both horsemen and foot soldiers, under Abu Hatim al-Ibadi and Abu ʿAd. Abu Qurrah al-Sufri joined them with forty thousand. They fought the governor of Ifriqiyyah, defeated his army, and killed him. He was ʿUmar b. Hafs b. ʿUthman b. Abi Sufrah, who had been governor of al-Sind, but al-Mansur dismissed him from it because he had pledged allegiance to Muhammad b. ʿAbd Allah b. Hasan, and appointed him to these lands. The Kharijites killed him, may God have mercy on him. The Kharijites spread corruption throughout the lands, killed women and children, and harmed the common people.
