Chapter mentioning a group of the prophets of the Israelites after Dāwūd and Sulaymān
Translation
✧ Summary of the stories of a group of the prophets The story of Shiʿyā b. Amṣiyā: He was before Zakariyyā and Yaḥyā (peace be upon them), and he was one of those who gave glad tidings of ʿĪsā and Muḥammad (peace be upon them). In his time there was a righteous king named Ṣadīqah, and he would not decide any matter without Shiʿyā ﷺ. Among what occurred in his days was God's destruction, glorified be He, of the army of the king of Babylon, Sanḥārīb, when he intended to raid the Children of Israel. God Almighty destroyed his army, and none of them survived except Sanḥārīb and five with him, among them Bukht Naṣṣar. He seized Ṣadīqah, then Shiʿyā commanded him to send them to their lands so that they might warn those behind them of what had befallen them. That was after Ṣadīqah had been afflicted with a mortal illness, but he was patient and called upon God Almighty, and God answered him and extended his life by fifteen years. Then Sanḥārīb returned and warned his people and informed them of what had happened, and he remained among them for seven years and died. Then the appointed time came to King Ṣadīqah, and he died, and the Children of Israel fell into disorder after him. Shiʿyā stood among them as a preacher to them, but they transgressed against him, so he fled and entered the base of a tree to hide in it. They caught up with him, sawed the tree, and sawed him within it (blessings and ﷺ ). Another name for the king who was in the time of Shiʿyā is mentioned in the words of the People of the Book. The story of Armiyā b. Ḥalqiyā and the mention of the destruction of Jerusalem Armiyā ﷺ was a young man from the sons of kings, and he was ascetic. His father had no child other than him. His father desired to marry him off, but he kept refusing until his father insisted upon him, and he married him to a woman. He did not touch her for a year, until he separated them. Then he married him to another, and he also did not touch her. His father became angry, so he fled from him. Then God Almighty sent him as a prophet, along with one of the kings whose name was Nāshiyah, to the Children of Israel when they disobeyed and transgressed and killed the prophets. When that came from them, Bukht Naṣṣar coveted them. God Almighty revealed to Armiyā: "Stand upon the rock of Jerusalem until revelation comes to you, for I am destroying the Children of Israel by worshippers of fire." Armiyā stood and called upon God Almighty and wept that He had made him the last of the prophets and made the destruction of Jerusalem and the destruction of the Children of Israel in his era. Then God revealed to him, exhorting him and teaching him that this is a matter in God's knowledge before He created creation, and that the matter is in His hand, and He alone, glorified be He, manages it. So Armiyā stood among the Children of Israel as a preacher, warning them of the consequence of disobedience, but they denied him, accused him, and imprisoned him. At that point, God sent against them Bukht Naṣṣar and his soldiers, and they traversed through the lands, took captive the women and children, killed the fighting men, and demolished the mosques. Bukht Naṣṣar was informed of the matter of Armiyā ﷺ, so he brought him out, honored him, and granted him safety. A remnant of the Children of Israel remained with Armiyā ﷺ, and they showed repentance and wanted to disperse throughout the lands and leave their homes. God Almighty tested them by revealing to Armiyā and commanding him to tell them to remain so that God might accept their repentance, but they refused him and dispersed throughout the lands. Mention of something of the account of Dānyāl ﷺ When the Children of Israel dispersed throughout the lands, Bukht Naṣṣar sought them and killed those of them he could overcome, and he took captive Dānyāl b. Ḥizqīl the younger. Then he brought two fierce lions and starved them, then threw them into a pit and threw Dānyāl ﷺ to them, but they did him no harm. God Almighty had revealed to Armiyā: "Prepare food to send to Dānyāl," and he was at that time in the Holy Land, while Dānyāl ﷺ was in Syria. So he sent someone to carry it and the food until he stood at the top of the pit. Dānyāl praised God for what God, glorified be He, had honored him with. It happened that Bukht Naṣṣar saw a dream that terrified him, but he forgot it. He gathered the soothsayers and asked them to inform him of what he had seen and its interpretation. They told him that they did not know until he told them. He gave them three days to inform him, otherwise he would kill them. The news spread and reached Dānyāl ﷺ while he was in the pit. He informed them that he knew what the king had seen and the interpretation of what he had seen. When he entered upon him, he related to him his dream and related to him its interpretation. At that time Bukht Naṣṣar recognized his excellence and he attained the best standing with him. Then Bukht Naṣṣar died and his son Balṭā was appointed, and he increased in wickedness and immorality. Dānyāl warned him and informed him that he would be killed after three days, and so it was. Then God Almighty took Dānyāl ﷺ in death. The Muslims found in the days of ʿUmar a body covered on a couch, and it was said it was Dānyāl ﷺ. They mentioned such things of his description and the largeness of his body that one would marvel at it. ʿUmar commanded that he be buried at night so that the people would not be tempted. It is narrated from Abū al-Ashʿath al-Aḥmarī that he said: The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Dānyāl prayed to his Lord, Mighty and Majestic, that the community of Muḥammad would bury him. When Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī conquered Tustar, he found him in a coffin, his veins and arteries still pulsing. The Messenger of God ﷺ had said: 'Whoever leads to Dānyāl, give him glad tidings of Paradise.' The one who led to him was a man called Ḥurqūṣ. Abū Mūsā wrote to ʿUmar with his news, and ʿUmar wrote to him: 'Bury him and send to Ḥurqūṣ, for the Prophet ﷺ gave him glad tidings of Paradise.'"
