Then the year 147 AH began
وَفِيهَا قَدِمَ رَسُولُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الَّذِي أَرْسَلَهُ إِلَى الشَّامِ فِي إِحْضَارِ وَلَدِهِ الْأَكْبَرِ سُلَيْمَانَ، فَحَضَرَ وَسُلَيْمَانُ مَعَهُ، وَكَانَ قَدْ وُلِدَ لِعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بِالْأَنْدَلُسِ وَلَدُهُ هِشَامٌ، فَقَدَّمَهُ الْأَمِيرُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ عَلَى سُلَيْمَانَ، فَحَصَلَ بَيْنَهُمَا حِقْدٌ وَغِلٌّ أَوْجَبَا مَا نَذْكُرُهُ فِيمَا بَعْدُ.
Translation
✧ In this year, the messenger of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān whom he had sent to Syria to bring his eldest son Sulaymān arrived, and Sulaymān came with him. A son, Hishām, had been born to ʿAbd al-Raḥmān in al-Andalus, and the amīr ʿAbd al-Raḥmān placed him ahead of Sulaymān. Thus ill will and rancor arose between them, which necessitated what we shall mention later.
