ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥasan b. Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib ؓ. He used to love solitude, he and his brother, and they went out to the desert. Then his brother Muḥammad rose against al-Manṣūr as was previously mentioned, and he was killed. Then he rose and was killed as previously mentioned. Ismāʿīl b. Abī Khālid, Abū ʿAbd Allāh. The name of Abū Khālid was Saʿd. He saw Anas, and he heard Ibn Abī Awfā and ʿAmr b. Ḥawshab. Sufyān admired him. He died in this year. From Ismāʿīl b. Abī Khālid, from Yazīd b. Ṭarīf, who said: My brother ʿUmayr b. Ṭarīf died, and I leaned toward his grave, and I heard my brother's voice, a weak voice that I recognized, saying: My Lord is God. Then the other said to him: What is your religion? He said: Islam. Al-Ḥasan b. al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib. He heard his mother Fāṭimah bt. al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib. He came to al-Anbār to al-Saffāḥ with his brother ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Ḥasan in a group of the Ṭālibids. Al-Saffāḥ honored them and gave them gifts, and they returned to Madinah. When al-Manṣūr took power, he imprisoned al-Ḥasan b. al-Ḥasan and his brother ʿAbd Allāh because of Muḥammad and Ibrāhīm, the two sons of ʿAbd Allāh. He remained in his prison until he died. Ghassān al-Laythī said, from his father: Abū al-ʿAbbās had singled out ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Ḥasan b. al-Ḥasan to the extent that he would appear before him in a shirt without trousers. One day he said to him: The Commander of the Faithful has not seen anyone in this state other than you, and I consider you only as a son. Then he asked him about his two sons, and he said to him: What kept them from me, that they did not come to me with those of their family who came to me? Then he repeated the question about them another time. ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Ḥasan complained about that to his brother al-Ḥasan b. al-Ḥasan, and he said to him: If he repeats the question about them, then say to him: Their matter is with their paternal uncle. ʿAbd Allāh said to him: Will you bear that for me? He said: Yes. When Abū al-ʿAbbās repeated the question to ʿAbd Allāh about them, he said: O Commander of the Faithful, their matter is with their paternal uncle. Abū al-ʿAbbās sent for al-Ḥasan and asked him about them. He said: O Commander of the Faithful, shall I speak to you with the awe of the caliphate, or as a man speaks to his cousin? Abū al-ʿAbbās said to him: Rather, as a man speaks to his cousin. Al-Ḥasan said to him: I adjure you by God, O Commander of the Faithful, if God has decreed for Muḥammad and Ibrāhīm that they attain any part of authority, then you and the people of the earth with you strive to avert what God has decreed for them—will they avert it? He said: No. He said: I adjure you by God, if God has not decreed for them that they attain any part of this authority, then they and the people of the earth with them gather to attain what has not been decreed for them—will they attain it? He said: No. He said: Then why do you spoil for this old man the favor you bestowed upon him? Abū al-ʿAbbās said: I will not mention them after today. And he did not mention them until death separated them. Al-ʿAlawī said: My grandfather said: Al-Ḥasan b. al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī died in the year 145 AH, in Dhū al-Qaʿdah, at al-Hāshimiyyah, in the prison of Abū Jaʿfar, and he was sixty-eight years old. Al-Ḥasan b. Thawbān b. ʿĀmir, Abū Thawbān al-Hamdānī al-Hawzanī. He transmitted from Mūsā b. Wardān and others. Ḥaywah b. Shurayḥ, al-Layth b. Saʿd, and others narrated from him. He was a commander over some of the frontier regions during the caliphate of Marwān b. Muḥammad. Al-Mufaḍḍal b. Faḍālah said: Al-Ḥasan b. Thawbān entered upon us one day while we were in the congregational mosque. He stopped, greeted us, then went and walked around the mosque, then returned to us. We said to him: O Abū Thawbān, you stopped at us, then went away, then came back. He said: I sought someone more profitable for me than you, and I did not find him. Al-Ḥasan died in Ramaḍān of this year. Ḥabīb b. al-Shahīd, Abū Muḥammad al-Baṣrī, a client of Muzaynah. He heard al-Ḥasan, Ibn Sīrīn, and ʿIkrimah. He died at Wāsiṭ during the days of tashrīq, on the day when the defeat of Ibrāhīm b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥasan came, and Sawwār prayed over him. ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥasan b. Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib al-Qurashī al-Hāshimī, a Successor. He transmitted from his father and his mother Fāṭimah bt. al-Ḥusayn and ʿAbd Allāh b. Jaʿfar b. Abī Ṭālib—and he is a noble Companion—and others. A group narrated from him, among them Sufyān al-Thawrī, al-Darāwardī, and Mālik. He was greatly honored and venerated among the scholars, and he was a devout worshipper of great standing. Yaḥyā b. Maʿīn said: He was trustworthy and reliable. He came as a delegate to ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, who honored him, and he came as a delegate to al-Saffāḥ, who honored him and gave him one million dirhams. When al-Manṣūr took power, he reversed this honor; he took him and his household, bound in chains, shackled, humiliated, from Madinah to al-Hāshimiyyah, and placed them in the narrow prison as we mentioned earlier. Most of them died in it. This ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥasan was the first to die in it, and that was after the rising of his son Muḥammad in Madinah. It was said that he was killed deliberately, and it was said that he died a natural death, and God knows best. His age on the day he died was seventy-five years. His brother prayed over him. Muṣʿab b. ʿAbd Allāh said: Abū al-ʿAbbās, the Commander of the Faithful, was walking around his building in al-Anbār, and with him was ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Ḥasan. He showed him the building and walked with him in it. ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Ḥasan said: O Commander of the Faithful, and he recited to him: Have you not seen Ḥawshab, who in the evening builds houses whose benefit is for the sons of Buqaylah, He hopes to live as long as Noah, But God's command occurs every night. Abū al-ʿAbbās said: What did you mean by this? He said: I wanted to make you renounce this. It was narrated from another chain that when he recited the two verses, he became alert and said: Spare me. He said: May God not spare me if you spend the night in my camp, and he sent him out to Madinah. Buqaylah was an umm walad of al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAlī; she bore him al-Qāsim, Abū Bakr, and ʿAbd Allāh, and they were killed with al-Ḥusayn ؓ. Abū Maʿqil—who is Ibn Ibrāhīm b. Dājah—said: My father narrated to me, saying: Abū Jaʿfar, the Commander of the Faithful, took ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥasan b. Ḥasan, put him in fetters, and imprisoned him in his house. When Abū Jaʿfar wanted to go on the pilgrimage, a daughter of ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥasan named Fāṭimah sat waiting for him. When he passed by her, she began to say: Have mercy on an old man whose age has crumbled, In prison amid chains and shackles. Have mercy on the little children of the sons of Yazīd, for they Have been orphaned by your loss, not by the loss of Yazīd. If you bestow the close kinship between us, Our grandfather is not far from your grandfather. Abū Jaʿfar said: You have reminded me of him. Then he ordered that he be taken down to the dungeon, and that was the last time he was seen. ʿAbd al-Malik b. Abī Sulaymān, Abū Sulaymān—and it was said: Abū ʿAbd Allāh—and the name of Abū Sulaymān was Maysarah, and he was the paternal uncle of Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh al-ʿAzramī. He settled in the cemetery of ʿAzram in Kufa and was attributed to it. He narrated from Anas b. Mālik, ʿAṭāʾ, and Saʿīd b. Jubayr. Al-Thawrī, Shuʿbah, and Ibn al-Mubārak narrated from him. He was among the memorizers, and Shuʿbah marveled at his memory, and Sufyān called him "the scale." Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal and Yaḥyā said: He is trustworthy. He died in Baghdad in this year and was buried at Sūq Yaḥyā. ʿAmr b. Maymūn b. Mihrān, Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Jazarī. He settled in al-Raqqah, and he heard his father, Sulaymān b. Yasār, and ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz. Al-Thawrī, Sharīk, and Ibn al-Mubārak narrated from him. He was trustworthy, righteous, learned, and devout. ʿAbd al-Malik al-Maymūnī said: I narrated to Abū ʿAbd Allāh Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal, saying: When I saw the standing of my paternal uncle with Abū Jaʿfar, I said: O uncle, if only you would ask the Commander of the Faithful to grant you an estate. He was silent. When I insisted, he said: O my son, you ask me to ask him for something that he himself began offering me more than once. One day he said to me: O Abū ʿAbd Allāh, I want to grant you an estate and make it good for you, and my friends, my children, and my family ask me for it, but I refuse them. What prevents you from accepting it? He said: I said: O Commander of the Faithful, I have seen that a man is measured by the spread of his reputation, and what my house encompasses is sufficient for my concerns. If the Commander of the Faithful sees fit to excuse me, let him do so. He said: I have done so. Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal said: Repeat it to me. I repeated it to him until he memorized it. Al-Maymūnī said: My father narrated to us, saying: My uncle ʿAmr would become thirsty, but he would not ask anyone for water until he drank it from his own house, and he would say: Every kindness is charity, and I do not like charity to be given to me. ʿAmr b. Maymūn died in this year, and it was said: in the year 140 AH. There are two opinions about the place of his death: one is al-Raqqah, and the other is Kufa. Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥasan b. Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib, Abū ʿAbd Allāh. He met Nāfiʿ and heard from him and others. He and his brother Ibrāhīm continued to frequent the desert, loved solitude, and did not come to caliphs or governors. When al-Manṣūr took power, he sought them, and they fled from him and escaped into the mountains. He brought their father and their household and imprisoned them until they died in his prison. That reached Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh, so he rose against al-Manṣūr. Many people gathered to him, and he adopted white banners, and allegiance was pledged to him as caliph. He advanced to Madinah, took it, and gained control over it. Then he was sent to Makkah, and it was taken for him, and they adopted white banners. Abū Jaʿfar hastened to pursue him and fight him, and he was killed along with his brother, as previously mentioned. The duration of Muḥammad's stay from the time he appeared until he was killed was two months and seventeen days. He transmitted from his father, Nāfiʿ, and from Abū al-Zinād, from al-Aʿraj, from Abū Hurayrah, concerning the manner of descending into prostration. A group narrated from him. Al-Nasāʾī and Ibn Ḥibbān declared him trustworthy, and al-Bukhārī said: His ḥadīth is not corroborated. It was mentioned that his mother carried him for four years. He was tall, stout, dark-skinned, huge, imposing, of lofty ambition and high authority. He was killed in Madinah in the middle of Ramaḍān in the year 145 AH, and he was forty-five years old. His head was carried to al-Manṣūr and paraded through the regions. Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAmr b. ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān, Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Qurashī. He was known as al-Dībāj because of the beauty of his face. His mother was Fāṭimah bt. al-Ḥusayn. Before his father, she had been with al-Ḥasan b. al-Ḥasan, and she bore him ʿAbd Allāh and Ḥasan. Then he died, and ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAmr married her, and she bore him Muḥammad, who is al-Dībāj. He was generous and manifest in his manly virtues. He narrated from his father, Nāfiʿ, and Abū al-Zinād. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān informed us, saying: Aḥmad b. ʿAlī al-Ḥāfiẓ informed us, saying: Yaḥyā b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz informed us, saying: ʿAlī b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbbās al-Jawharī informed us, saying: Aḥmad b. Saʿīd al-Dimashqī informed us, saying: Al-Zubayr b. Bakkār narrated to me, saying: ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz narrated to me, from Abū al-Sāʾib, who said: I needed a milch camel, so I wrote to Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAmr b. ʿUthmān asking him to send me a milch camel. While I was at my door, suddenly I heard the driving of camels, and among them was a slave driving them. I said: O you, this is not the road. He said: I want Abū al-Sāʾib. I said: I am Abū al-Sāʾib. He handed me a letter from Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh, and in it was: Your letter came to me in which you request a milch camel. I have gathered what we had on hand of them, and they are nineteen milch camels. I sent with them a slave shepherd, and they are fat, and he is free if he returns. What I sent is not part of my wealth at all. He said: I sold from them for three hundred dinars, apart from what I kept for my need. Abū Jaʿfar al-Manṣūr seized Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh in this year and killed him on the night when news of the rising of Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥasan in Madinah came to him, and he sent his head to Khurasan. That was because Muḥammad was the maternal brother of ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥasan b. Ḥasan. Thus al-Khaṭīb mentioned. Muḥammad b. Saʿd mentioned that he imprisoned him and he died in his prison. This man had a daughter named Ḥafṣah. We do not know any woman whose lineage includes the Messenger of God ﷺ, Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿUthmān, ʿAlī, Ṭalḥah, and al-Zubayr other than her, because her mother was Khadījah bt. ʿUthmān b. ʿUrwah b. al-Zubayr, and the mother of ʿUrwah was Asmāʾ bt. Abī Bakr, and the mother of her father was Fāṭimah bt. al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib, and the mother of al-Ḥusayn was Fāṭimah bt. the Messenger of God ﷺ, and the mother of Fāṭimah bt. al-Ḥusayn was Umm Isḥāq bt. Ṭalḥah b. ʿUbayd Allāh, and the mother of ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAmr was Zaynab bt. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb. 774 - Yazīd b. Abī Saʿīd, Abū al-Ḥusayn al-Naḥwī. He was attributed to a clan called Banū Naḥwah al-Naḥw b. Shums—with ḍammah on the dotted shīn—a clan of al-Azd, and he was not attributed to grammar (naḥw). Abū Aḥmad al-ʿAskarī said: Likewise Shaybān b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Naḥwī. Abū al-Ḥusayn Ibn al-Munādī said: He is Yazīd, not Shaybān. Yazīd narrated from ʿAlqamah and Mujāhid, and he narrated from al-Ḥusayn b. Wāqid and Abū Ḥamzah. In this year Yaḥyā b. al-Ḥārith al-Dhimārī died, at the age of seventy. Ruʾbah b. al-ʿAjjāj—and al-ʿAjjāj is a nickname, his name being Abū al-Shaʿthāʾ ʿAbd Allāh b. Ruʾbah—Abū Muḥammad al-Tamīmī al-Baṣrī, the rajaz poet, son of the rajaz poet. Each of them has a dīwān of rajaz, and each is outstanding in his art, not to be rivaled or disputed, learned in the language.
