Then the year 142 AH began
وَوَلَّى الْمَنْصُورُ الْجَزِيرَةَ وَالثُّغُورَ وَالْعَوَاصِمَ أَخَاهُ الْعَبَّاسَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ، وَعَزَلَ الْمَنْصُورُ عَمَّهُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ عَنِ الْمَوْصِلِ، وَاسْتَعْمَلَ عَلَيْهَا مَالِكَ بْنَ الْهَيْثَمِ الْخُزَاعِيَّ جَدَّ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ نُصَيْرٍ الَّذِي قَتَلَهُ الْوَاثِقُ، وَكَانَ خَيْرَ أَمِيرٍ.
Translation
✧ Al-Manṣūr appointed his brother al-ʿAbbās b. Muḥammad over al-Jazīrah, the frontier fortresses (al-thughūr), and the border marches (al-ʿawāṣim). Al-Manṣūr dismissed his paternal uncle Ismāʿīl b. ʿAlī from al-Mawṣil, and appointed over it Mālik b. al-Haytham al-Khuzāʿī, the grandfather of Aḥmad b. Nuṣayr whom al-Wāthiq killed, and he was the best of governors.
