Then the Year 124 AH Began

ذِكْرُ عِدَّةِ حَوَادِثَ وَفِيهَا غَزَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ الصَّائِفَةَ ، فَلَقِيَ أَلْيُونَ مَلِكَ الرُّومِ فَغَنِمَ. وَحَجَّ بِالنَّاسِ هَذِهِ السَّنَةَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هِشَامِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ. قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرِ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ: حَجَّ بِالنَّاسِ فِيهَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ وَمَعَهُ امْرَأَتُهُ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ بِنْتُ هِشَامِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ. وَكَانَ نَائِبَ الْحِجَازِ وَالطَّائِفِ وَهُوَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هِشَامِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ يَقِفُ عَلَى بَابِهَا، وَيَهْدِي إِلَيْهَا الْأَلْطَافَ وَالتُّحَفَ، وَيَعْتَذِرُ إِلَيْهَا مِنَ التَّقْصِيرِ، وَهِيَ لَا تَلْتَفِتُ إِلَى ذَلِكَ. وَنُوَّابُ الْبِلَادِ هُمُ الْمَذْكُورُونَ فِي الَّتِي قَبْلَهَا.

Translation

✧ Mention of several events In this year, Sulaymān b. Hishām raided the summer expedition, and he encountered Alyūn, king of the Byzantines, and took spoils. Muḥammad b. Hishām b. Ismāʿīl led the people in the pilgrimage this year. Abū Jaʿfar b. Jarīr said: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. al-Ḥajjāj b. ʿAbd al-Malik led the people in it, and with him was his wife Umm Salamah bt. Hishām b. ʿAbd al-Malik. The governor of the Ḥijāz and al-Ṭāʾif, who was Muḥammad b. Hishām b. Ismāʿīl, would stand at her door, send her gifts and presents, and apologize to her for any shortcoming, while she paid no attention to that. The governors of the provinces are those mentioned in the previous year.
