✧ Those of the notables who died in this year Simāk b. Ḥarb al-Sadūsī: He had lost his sight, then he saw Ibrāhīm al-Khalīl ﷺ in a dream and woke up seeing. Simāk b. Ḥarb b. Aws and Simāk b. Ḥarb b. Aws b. Khālid b. Nizār, Abū al-Mughīrah al-Dhuhlī: He saw al-Mughīrah b. Shuʿbah, and heard from al-Nuʿmān b. Bashīr, Jābir b. Samurah, Suwayd b. Qays, Anas b. Mālik, Muḥammad b. Ḥāṭib, and Thaʿlabah b. al-Ḥakam. Simāk said: I met eighty of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Ismāʿīl b. Abī Khālid, al-Thawrī, Shuʿbah, Zāʾidah, and Ḥammād b. Salamah narrated from him. He was trustworthy, and Ibn Hubayrah sent him to Baghdad, and he arrived there before it was built as a city. He died in this year. Saʿīd b. Abī Saʿīd al-Maqburī, client of Banū Layth: He narrated from Saʿd b. Abī Waqqāṣ, Abū Hurayrah, Abū Saʿīd, and others, and he was trustworthy. Muḥammad b. Saʿd said: But he remained until he became confused four years before his death. He died in this year. ʿAwn b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿUtbah b. Masʿūd al-Hudhalī: He heard from Ibn ʿUmar, Ibn ʿAbbās, and most of his narrations are from his father. Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Bāqī informed us with a chain from Ibn ʿUyaynah, from Misʿar, who said: ʿAwn b. ʿAbd Allāh said: It is enough pride for you to see yourself as having merit over one who is below you. ʿAbd Allāh said with his chain from Abū Hārūn, who said: ʿAwn used to narrate to us while his beard was sprinkled with tears. ʿĀʾishah bt. Ṭalḥah b. ʿUbayd Allāh al-Taymī: Her mother was Umm Kulthūm bt. Abī Bakr al-Ṣiddīq. She narrated from ʿĀʾishah, the Mother of the Believers, her maternal aunt. She was surpassingly beautiful. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Bakr married her, and she bore him ʿImrān, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, Abū Bakr, Ṭalḥah, and Nafīsah, then she separated from her husband, then she returned to him, then he died while married to her, and she did not open her mouth against him. Then after him Muṣʿab b. al-Zubayr married her, giving her a dowry of five hundred thousand dirhams, and he gave her a gift of the like. She used to quarrel much with him. He entered upon her while she was sleeping with eight pearls worth twenty thousand dinars, woke her, and scattered the pearls in her lap. She said to him: My sleep was dearer to me than these pearls. Then Muṣʿab was killed while married to her. Then Bishr b. Marwān proposed to her. ʿUmar b. ʿUbayd Allāh b. Maʿmar al-Taymī arrived from Syria and stayed in Kufa. He learned that Bishr had proposed to her, so he sent a servant girl of hers to her, telling her: Say to her: Your cousin sends you greetings and says to you: I am better for you than this one of easy wealth and weak position, and if I marry you I will fill your house with good. So she married him, and he consummated the marriage with her at al-Ḥīrah. In another narration, Bishr sent ʿUmar b. ʿUbayd Allāh to propose to her on his behalf. She said to him: Could Bishr find no messenger to your cousin's daughter other than you? Why not propose for yourself? He said: Would you do that? She said: Yes. So he married her and brought her one million dirhams: five hundred thousand as dowry and five hundred thousand as a gift. He said to her freedwoman: You will have a thousand dinars from me if I consummate with her tonight. So the money was brought and thrown into the house and covered with clothes. ʿĀʾishah came out and said to her freedwoman: What is this—bedding or clothes? She said: Look. She looked and saw it was money. She smiled and said to her: Is it the recompense of the one who brought this that he spend the night with us? She said: No, by Allah, but his entry is not permissible until I adorn myself for him and prepare. She said: With what? By Allah, your face is more beautiful than every adornment, and you do not extend your hand to any perfume, garment, or bedding except that you have it. I have resolved that you give him permission. She said: Do it. So the freedwoman went to him and said: Spend the night in our house tonight. He came to them at the last part of the night. She remained with him for eight years, and she used to describe Muṣʿab to him so that he almost died of rage. When he died, she mourned him standing and said: He was the most generous of them to me and the closest of them in kinship to me, so I will not marry after him. When a woman mourned her husband standing, it was known that she would not marry after him. She entered upon al-Walīd b. ʿAbd al-Malik while he was in Makkah and said: O Commander of the Faithful, provide me with helpers who will be with me. He assigned to her a group who would be with her. She performed the pilgrimage with sixty mules carrying litters and saddles. Sukaynah bt. al-Ḥusayn also performed the pilgrimage. ʿĀʾishah was better than her in equipment and baggage. The camel-driver of ʿĀʾishah sang: ʿĀʾish, O owner of the sixty mules, May you never cease, as long as you live, to perform the pilgrimage tomorrow. This distressed Sukaynah, so her camel-driver sang: ʿĀʾish, here is a co-wife complaining about you; Were it not for her father, your father would not have been guided. ʿĀʾishah ordered her camel-driver to stop. When ʿĀʾishah became a widow, she used to reside in Makkah for a year and in Madinah for a year, and she would go out to property she had in al-Ṭāʾif and a palace she had to enjoy herself. She came to Hishām b. ʿAbd al-Malik, and he said: What brought you here? She said: The sky withheld its rain and the ruler withheld the right. So he ordered for her a hundred thousand dirhams and returned her to Madinah. In that year Muḥammad b. Wāsiʿ al-Azdī al-Baṣrī died, and it is said: in the year 127. In it Jaʿfar b. Iyās died, and in it Mālik b. Dīnār al-Zāhid died. In this year Rabīʿah b. Yazīd al-Qaṣīr of the people of Damascus and Abū Yūnus Sulaym b. Jubayr died.
