Translation

✧ The Shiʿah of Banū al-ʿAbbās in Khurāsān And in the year one hundred and twenty, the Shiʿah of the family of al-ʿAbbās deemed the letter of Muḥammad b. ʿAlī to them slow in coming. He had already reproached them for their following that zindīq who was nicknamed Khidāsh, and he was a Khurramī. It was he who made permissible for them abominations and defiled the forbidden [degrees of marriage] and the affinal relations. Khālid al-Qasrī killed him, as has preceded. So Muḥammad b. ʿAlī reproached them for believing him and following him upon falsehood. When they deemed his letter to them slow in coming, he sent to them a messenger to inform them of his affair, and they also sent a messenger. When their messenger came, Muḥammad informed him of what he reproached them for on account of the Khurramī—may God disfigure him—then he sent with the messenger a sealed letter. When they opened it, behold, it contained nothing but: In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful. Know that we only reproached you on account of the Khurramī. Then Muḥammad b. ʿAlī directed Bukayr b. Māhān to them after the return of Sulaymān from his presence, and he wrote with him to them informing them of the lying of Khidāsh. They did not believe him and made light of him, so Bukayr returned to Muḥammad. Then he sent with him staffs bound with iron, some of them with iron and some with copper. Bukayr gathered the nuqabāʾ and the Shiʿah and gave to each one of them a staff. They knew that they were at variance with his way, so they repented and returned.
