The story of Ilyās (peace be upon him)
[نسب إِلْيَاسَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ] قَالَ عُلَمَاءُ النَّسَبِ: هُوَ إِلْيَاسُ بْنُ تَسْبِي. وَيُقَالُ: ابْنُ يَاسِينَ بْنِ فِنْحَاصَ بْنِ الْعَيْزَارِ بْنِ هَارُونَ. وَقِيلَ: إِلْيَاسُ بْنُ الْعَازِرِ بْنِ الْعَيْزَارِ بْنِ هَارُونَ بْنِ عِمْرَانَ وَهُوَ إِلْيَاسِينُ، وَهُوَ إِدْرَاسِينُ، وَقَرَأَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ وَغَيْرُهُ: ( سَلَامٌ عَلَى إِدْرَاسِينَ ). وَنُقِلَ عَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: إِلْيَاسُ هُوَ إِدْرِيسُ. وَإِلَيْهِ ذَهَبَ الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ مُزَاحِمٍ، وَحَكَاهُ قَتَادَةُ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، وَالصَّحِيحُ أَنَّهُ غَيْرُهُ، كَمَا تَقَدَّمَ، وَاللَّهُ تَعَالَى أَعْلَمُ بِالصَّوَابِ.
Translation
✧ [The lineage of Ilyās ﷺ ] The genealogists said: He is Ilyās b. Tasbī. And it is said: b. Yāsīn b. Finḥāṣ b. al-ʿAyzār b. Hārūn. And it was said: Ilyās b. al-ʿĀzir b. al-ʿAyzār b. Hārūn b. ʿImrān, and he is Ilyāsīn, and he is Idrāsīn. Ibn Masʿūd and others recited: (Salām ʿalā Idrāsīn). It was transmitted from him through the route of Isḥāq, from ʿUbaydah b. Rabīʿah, from Ibn Masʿūd, that he said: Ilyās is Idrīs. Al-Ḍaḥḥāk b. Muzāḥim held this view, and Qatādah and Muḥammad b. Isḥāq related it. The correct view is that he is someone else, as previously stated, and God Most High knows best what is correct.
