The story of Moses the one who spoke with Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)
Translation
✧ [The name of al-Khiḍr] As for the name of al-Khiḍr, Kaʿb al-Aḥbār said: He is al-Khiḍr b. ʿĀmīl. Ibn Isḥāq said: His name is Urmiyāʾ b. Khilqiyā. Abū Jaʿfar al-Ṭabarī said: This is not correct, because Urmiyāʾ lived in the days of Bukht Naṣṣar, and between the time of Mūsā and Bukht Naṣṣar there was a long [period]. It was said: He is al-Khiḍr b. Milkān b. Fāligh b. ʿĀbir b. Shāliḥ b. Arfakhshad b. Sām b. Nūḥ. Some of the People of the Book said: He is Khaḍrūn b. ʿĀmīl b. Alīfarn b. al-ʿĪṣ b. Isḥāq, and that he was the maternal cousin of Dhū al-Qarnayn and his minister. Al-Ṭabarī said: Al-Khiḍr is the fourth child among the children of Ādam. From Ibn ʿAbbās, he said: Al-Khiḍr was a son of Ādam from his loins, and his lifespan was extended so that he would give the lie to the Dajjāl. This is munqaṭiʿ and gharīb. Abū Ḥātim Sahl b. Muḥammad b. ʿUthmān al-Sijistānī said: I heard our shaykhs, among them Abū ʿUbayda and others, say: The longest-lived of the children of Ādam was al-Khiḍr, and his name is Khaḍrūn b. Qābīl b. Ādam. He said: Ibn Isḥāq mentioned that when death came to Ādam ﷺ, he told his children that the flood would befall the people, and he instructed them, when that happened, to carry his body with them in the ark, and to bury him in a place he specified for them. When the flood occurred, they carried him with them. When they descended to the earth, Nūḥ ordered his children to take his body and bury it where he had instructed. They said: The land has no inhabitants and is desolate. He urged them and encouraged them to do that. He said: Ādam prayed for whoever would undertake his burial to have a long life. They were afraid to travel to that place at that time, so his body remained with them until al-Khiḍr was the one who undertook his burial, and Allah fulfilled what He had promised him. Thus he lives as long as Allah wills him to live. It was said his name is Balyā b. Malkān b. Fāligh b. ʿĀbir b. Shālakh b. Arfakhshad b. Sām b. Nūḥ. Ismāʿīl b. Abī Uways said: The name of al-Khiḍr, as far as we have been informed – and Allah knows best – is al-Muʿammar b. Mālik b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Naṣr b. al-Azd. Some said: His kunya is Abū al-ʿAbbās. The most likely view – and Allah knows best – is that al-Khiḍr is a nickname that prevailed over him.
