خِلَافِ أَهْلِ الرَّيِّ بَعْدَ مَوْتِ يَزِيدَ خَالَفَ أَهْلُ الرَّيِّ، وَكَانَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْفَرُّخَانُ الرَّازِيُّ، فَوَجَّهَ إِلَيْهِمْ عَامِرُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، وَهُوَ أَمِيرُ الْكُوفَةِ، مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ عُطَارِدِ بْنِ حَاجِبِ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ عُدَسِ التَّمِيمِيَّ، فَلَقِيَهُ أَهْلُ الرَّيِّ، فَانْهَزَمَ مُحَمَّدٌ، فَبَعَثَ إِلَيْهِمْ عَامِرٌ عَتَّابَ بْنَ وَرْقَاءَ الرِّيَاحِيَّ التَّمِيمِيَّ، فَاقْتَتَلُوا قِتَالًا شَدِيدًا فَقُتِلَ الْفَرُّخَانُ وَانْهَزَمَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ، وَكَانَ هَذَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ مَعَ عَلِيٍّ بِصِفِّينَ عَلَى تَمِيمِ الْكُوفَةِ، ثُمَّ عَاشَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ، فَلَمَّا وَلِيَ الْحَجَّاجُ الْكُوفَةَ فَارَقَهَا وَسَارَ إِلَى الشَّامِ لِكَرَاهَتِهِ وِلَايَةَ الْحَجَّاجِ.
Translation
✧ The Disaffection of the People of al-Rayy After the death of Yazīd, the people of al-Rayy disaffected. Over them was al-Farrukhān al-Rāzī. ʿĀmir b. Masʿūd, who was governor of al-Kūfah, sent against them Muḥammad b. ʿUmayr b. ʿUṭārid b. Ḥājib b. Zurārah b. ʿUdas al-Tamīmī. The people of al-Rayy met him, and Muḥammad was routed. Then ʿĀmir sent against them ʿAttāb b. Warqāʾ al-Riyāḥī al-Tamīmī. They fought a fierce battle, and al-Farrukhān was killed and the polytheists were routed. This Muḥammad b. ʿUmayr had been with ʿAlī at Ṣiffīn over the Tamīm of al-Kūfah. He lived on after that, and when al-Ḥajjāj became governor of al-Kūfah he left it and went to al-Shām out of dislike for al-Ḥajjāj's governorship.
