أَوْلَادِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ وَعَدَدِهِمْ فَمِنْهُمْ مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ يُكَنَّى أَبَا لَيْلَى، وَهُوَ الَّذِي يَقُولُ فِيهِ الشَّاعِرُ: إِنِّي أَرَى فِتْنَةً قَدْ حَانَ أَوَّلُهَا وَالْمُلْكُ بَعْدَ أَبِي لَيْلَى لِمَنْ غَلَبَا وَخَالِدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، يُكَنَّى أَبَا هَاشِمٍ، كَانَ يُقَالُ: إِنَّهُ أَصَابَ عِلْمَ الْكِيمْيَاءِ. وَأَبُو سُفْيَانَ، وَأُمُّهُمْ أُمُّ هَاشِمٍ بِنْتُ أَبِي هَاشِمِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ شَمْسٍ، وَقَدْ تَزَوَّجَهَا بَعْدَ يَزِيدَ مَرْوَانُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ وَهِيَ الَّتِي يَقُولُ فِيهَا الشَّاعِرُ: انْعَمِي أُمَّ خَالِدٍ رُبَّ سَاعٍ لِقَاعِدٍ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، وَيُقَالُ لَهُ: الْأُسْوَارُ. وَكَانَ مِنْ أَرَمَى الْعَرَبِ، وَأُمُّهُ أُمُّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ وَهُوَ الَّذِي يَقُولُ فِيهِ الشَّاعِرُ: زَعَمَ النَّاسُ أَنَّ خَيْرَ قُرَيْشٍ كُلِّهِمْ حِينَ يُذْكَرُ الْأُسْوَارُ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ الْأَصْغَرُ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَعُتْبَةُ، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، وَالرَّبِيعُ، وَمُحَمَّدٌ، لِأُمَّهَاتِ أَوْلَادٍ شَتَّى.
Translation
✧ The Children of Yazīd b. Muʿāwiyah and Their Number Among them were Muʿāwiyah b. Yazīd b. Muʿāwiyah, whose kunyah was Abū Laylā. He is the one about whom the poet says: I see a fitnah whose beginning is near, and sovereignty after Abū Laylā belongs to whoever prevails. And Khālid b. Yazīd, whose kunyah was Abū Hāshim. It was said that he had acquired the science of alchemy. And Abū Sufyān. Their mother was Umm Hāshim bt. Abī Hāshim b. ʿUtbah b. Rabīʿah b. ʿAbd Shams. Marwān b. al-Ḥakam married her after Yazīd, and she is the one about whom the poet says: Enjoy yourself, Umm Khālid; perhaps one who strives may be for one who sits. And ʿAbd Allāh b. Yazīd, called al-Uswār. He was one of the best archers among the Arabs, and his mother was Umm Kulthūm bt. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿĀmir. He is the one about whom the poet says: The people claimed that the best of Quraysh, all of them, when al-Uswār is mentioned— And ʿAbd Allāh al-Aṣghar, and Abū Bakr, and ʿUtbah, and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, and al-Rabīʿ, and Muḥammad, from various ummahāt awlād.
