✧ The governorship of Yazīd b. Ziyād and Ṭalḥah al-Ṭalaḥāt over Sijistān When Yazīd b. Muʿāwiyah appointed Salm b. Ziyād over Khurāsān, he appointed his brother Yazīd over Sijistān. The people of Kabul acted treacherously, breaking their pact, and took Abū ʿUbaydah b. Ziyād captive. So Yazīd b. Ziyād marched against them with an army. They fought, the Muslims were defeated, and many of them were killed. Among those killed were Yazīd b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Mulaykah and Ṣilah b. Ashyam Abū al-Ṣahbāʾ al-ʿAdawī, the husband of Muʿādhah al-ʿAdawiyyah. When the news reached Salm b. Ziyād, he dispatched Ṭalḥah b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Khalaf al-Khuzāʿī, who is Ṭalḥah al-Ṭalaḥāt. He ransomed Abū ʿUbaydah b. Ziyād for five hundred thousand dirhams. Then Ṭalḥah marched from Kabul to Sijistān as its governor. He collected the tax, gave gifts to his visitors, and died in Sijistān. He appointed as his successor a man from Banū Yashkur, but the Muḍarī faction expelled him. Factional strife broke out, and Rutbīl became covetous of them.
