The caliphate of Muʿāwiyah b. Abī Sufyān
وفي سَنَةُ خَمْسٍ وَأَرْبَعِينَ وَلَّى مُعَاوِيَةُ الْبَصْرَةَ لِلْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَزْدِيِّ حِينَ عَزَلَ ابْنَ عَامِرٍ، وَهُوَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ، فَاسْتَعْمَلَ الْحَارِثُ عَلَى شُرْطَتِهِ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو الثَّقَفِيَّ، فَبَقِيَ الْحَارِثُ أَمِيرًا عَلَى الْبَصْرَةِ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ، ثُمَّ عَزَلَهُ وَوَلَّاهَا زِيَادًا.
Translation
✧ In the year forty-five Muʿāwiyah appointed al-Ḥārith b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Azdī over al-Baṣrah when he dismissed Ibn ʿĀmir, and he was from the people of al-Shām. Al-Ḥārith then appointed ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAmr al-Thaqafī over his shurṭah. Al-Ḥārith remained governor of al-Baṣrah for four months, then he dismissed him and appointed Ziyād over it.
