The caliphate of Muʿāwiyah b. Abī Sufyān
خُرُوجِ أَبِي لَيْلَى وَكَانَ أَبُو لَيْلَى رَجُلًا أَسْوَدَ طَوِيلًا، فَأَخَذَ بِعَضَادَتَيْ بَابِ الْمَسْجِدِ بِالْكُوفَةِ وَفِيهِ عِدَّةٌ مِنَ الْأَشْرَافِ وَحَكَّمَ بِصَوْتٍ عَالٍ، فَلَمْ يَعْرِضْ لَهُ أَحَدٌ، فَخَرَجَ وَتَبِعَهُ ثَلَاثُونَ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْمَوَالِي، فَبَعَثَ فِيهِ الْمُغِيرَةُ مَعْقِلَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ الرِّيَاحِيَّ فَقَتَلَهُ بِسَوَادِ الْكُوفَةِ سَنَةَ اثْنَتَيْنِ وَأَرْبَعِينَ.
Translation
✧ The going forth of Abū Laylā And Abū Laylā was a tall black man. He took hold of the two doorposts of the mosque gate in al-Kūfah, while there were in it several of the nobles, and he pronounced the arbitration in a loud voice, and no one opposed him. Then he went out, and thirty men from the mawālī followed him. Al-Mughīrah sent against him Maʿqil b. Qays al-Riyāḥī, and he killed him in the Sawād of al-Kūfah in the year forty-two.
