Translation
✧ The people performed the Hajj in this year under ʿUbayd Allāh b. ʿAbbās b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, by command of the Commander of the Faithful ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib ؓ. The arrival of Māhawayh, the Marzbān of Marw, for peace In this year, Māhawayh, the Marzbān of Marw, came to ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib ؓ after the Battle of the Camel, affirming the peace. ʿAlī wrote him a letter to the dihqāns of Marw and the Asāwirah stating that he was pleased with him. Then they later reneged. Appointment of Yazīd b. Ḥujayyah al-Taymī over al-Rayy In this year, ʿAlī appointed Yazīd b. Ḥujayyah al-Taymī, of Taym al-Lāt, over al-Rayy. He embezzled thirty thousand from its land tax. ʿAlī wrote summoning him, and he came. He asked him about the money: "Where is the wealth you embezzled?" He said, "I took nothing!" So he struck him with the whip several times, imprisoned him, and set Saʿd, his client, in charge of him. Yazīd then fled from him to Syria, and Muʿāwiyah let him keep the money. He used to speak ill of ʿAlī and remained in Syria until the affair was settled for Muʿāwiyah, then he proceeded with him to Iraq, and he appointed him over al-Rayy. It is said that he fought with ʿAlī at the Camel, Ṣiffīn, and al-Nahrawān, and then he appointed him over al-Rayy; and this is the correct account.
