The Caliphate of ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān
ثُمَّ دَخَلَتْ سَنَةُ سِتٍّ وَعِشْرِينَ تَجْدِيدِ أَنْصَابِ الْحَرَمِ وَزَادَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ فَمِنَ الْحَوَادِثِ فِيهَا: أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ أَمَرَ بِتَجْدِيدِ أَنْصَابِ الْحَرَمِ، وَزَادَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ، [وَوَسَّعَهُ] وَابْتَاعَ مِنْ قَوْمٍ، وَأَبَى آخَرُونَ فَهَدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ، وَوَضَعَ الْأَثْمَانَ فِي بَيْتِ الْمَالِ، فَصَاحُوا عَلَى عُثْمَانَ، فَأَمَرَ بِهِمْ إِلَى الْحَبْسِ، وَقَالَ: أَتَدْرُونَ مَا جَرَّأَكُمْ عَلَيَّ؟ مَا جَرَّأَكُمْ عَلَيَّ إِلَّا حِلْمِي، قَدْ فَعَلَ هَذَا بِكُمْ عُمَرُ، فَلَمْ تَصِيحُوا بِهِ. ثُمَّ كَلَّمَهُ فِيهِمْ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ أُسَيْدٍ، فَأَخْرَجُوا. وَفِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ: حَجَّ بِالنَّاسِ عُثْمَانُ ؓ. فتح سابور وَفِيهَا افْتَتَحَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَاصِ سَابُورَ صُلْحًا عَلَى ثَلَاثَةِ آلَافِ أَلْفٍ وَثَلَاثِمِائَةِ أَلْفٍ.
Translation
✧ Then the year twenty-six began The renovation of the boundary markers of the sacred precinct and his expansion of the Sacred Mosque Among the events in it: That ʿUthmān ordered the renovation of the boundary markers of the sacred precinct, and he expanded the Sacred Mosque, [and enlarged it] and purchased from some people, while others refused, so he demolished over them and placed the prices in the public treasury. They cried out against ʿUthmān, so he ordered them to prison and said: Do you know what emboldened you against me? Nothing emboldened you against me except my forbearance. ʿUmar had done this to you, and you did not cry out against him. Then ʿAbd Allāh b. Khālid b. Usayd spoke to him about them, so they were released. In this year: ʿUthmān ؓ led the people in pilgrimage. The conquest of Sābūr In it, ʿUthmān b. Abī al-ʿĀṣ conquered Sābūr by treaty for three thousand thousand and three hundred thousand.
