The caliphate of Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq ᴿᴬ
ذِكْرُ أَسْمَاءِ قُضَاتِهِ وَعُمَّالِهِ عَلَى الصَّدَقَاتِ لَمَّا وَلِيَ قَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: أَنَا أَكْفِيكَ الْقَضَاءَ، فَجَعَلَهُ قَاضِيًا فَمَكَثَ سَنَةً لَا يُخَاصَمُ إِلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ، وَكَانَ يَكْتُبُ لَهُ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ، وَفِي بَعْضِ الْأَوْقَاتِ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ ؓ وَمَنْ حَضَرَ. وَكَانَ عَامِلُهُ عَلَى مَكَّةَ عَتَّابَ بْنَ أَسِيدٍ، وَعَلَى الطَّائِفِ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ أَبِي الْعَاصِ، وَعَلَى صَنْعَاءَ الْمُهَاجِرَ بْنَ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ، وَعَلَى حَضْرَمَوْتَ زِيَادَ بْنَ لَبِيدٍ، وَعَلَى خَوْلَانَ يَعْلَى بْنَ أُمَيَّةَ، وَعَلَى الْجُنْدِ مُعَاذَ بْنَ جَبَلٍ، وَعَلَى الْبَحْرِينِ الْعَلَاءَ بْنَ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ، وَبَعَثَ جَمَاعَةً مِنَ الصَّحَابَةِ فِي أَعْمَالٍ، وَأَمَّرَ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ، وَعَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ وَخَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ، وَشُرَحْبِيلَ بْنَ حَسَنَةَ.
Translation
✧ Mention of the names of his judges and his governors over the alms taxes When he assumed the caliphate, ʿUmar said to him: I will take care of the judiciary for you, so he appointed him as judge. He remained for a year with no one bringing a dispute to him. Zayd b. Thābit used to write for him, and at some times ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān ؓ and whoever was present. His governor over Makkah was ʿAttāb b. Asīd, over al-Ṭāʾif ʿUthmān b. Abī al-ʿĀṣ, over Ṣanʿāʾ al-Muhājir b. Abī Umayya, over Ḥaḍramawt Ziyād b. Labīd, over Khawlān Yaʿlā b. Umayya, over al-Jund Muʿādh b. Jabal, and over al-Baḥrayn al-ʿAlāʾ b. al-Ḥaḍramī. He sent a group of the Companions on various duties, and appointed as commanders Abū ʿUbayda, ʿAmr b. al-ʿĀṣ and Khālid b. al-Walīd, and Shuraḥbīl b. Ḥasana.
