Creation of the heavens and the earth
ذِكْرُ الْمَعَادِنِ قَدْ أَحْصَى بَعْضُ الْقُدَمَاءِ الْمَعَادِنَ الْمَعْرُوفَةَ كَالْجِصِّ وَالنَّوْرَةِ فَوَجَدُوهَا سَبْعَمِائَةِ مَعْدِنٍ . قَالُوا: وَلَا يَنْعَقِدُ الْمِلْحُ إِلَّا فِي السَّبْخَةِ، وَالْجِصُّ [إِلَّا] فِي الرَّمْلِ وَالْحَصَى.
Translation
✧ Mention of Minerals Some of the ancients enumerated the known minerals, such as gypsum and quicklime, and found them to be seven hundred minerals. They said: Salt does not form except in saline soil, and gypsum (only) in sand and gravel.
