Translation
✧ Ḥassān b. Thābit, ؓ, said, enumerating the days of the Anṣār with the Messenger of God ﷺ, and mentioning their stations with him in the days of his campaigns — Ibn Hishām said: It is also related from his son ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Ḥassān —: Are you not the best of all Maʿadd in men and in clan, whether they are counted together or singled out? A people who all witnessed Badr with the Messenger, and did not fail or forsake him. They pledged allegiance to him, and not one of them broke it, nor was there any defect in their faith. And the day when they met them in the mountain pass of Uḥud, a firm striking like blazing fire. And the day of Dhū Qarad, the day when they stirred them up upon the swift horses, and they did not flinch or hold back. And Dhū al-ʿUshayrah — they trod it with their horses with the Messenger, upon them the white swords and the spearheads. And the day of Waddān — they drove out its people in a gallop with the horses, until the rugged ground and the mountain forbade us. And a night when they sought their enemy for God — and God will reward them for what they did. And a night at Ḥunayn when they fought alongside him, in which he gave them war as a second draught when they had drunk their fill. And a campaign on the day of Najd — then there was theirs, with the Messenger, the spoils and the extra shares. And the campaign of al-Qāʿ — we scattered the enemy by it, as the camels going to water scatter apart. And the day when allegiance was pledged — they were the people of his allegiance upon fighting, and they shared with him and did not deviate. And the campaign of the Conquest — they were in his expeditionary force, keeping watch, and they did not waver or act rashly. And the day of Khaybar — they were in his battalion, all of them walking as brave heroes. With white swords quivering in their right hands, bare, that sometimes bend in striking and sometimes stand straight. And the day when the Messenger of God set out, seeking God's reward, to Tabūk — and they were his first banners. And the managers of war, if war appeared to them, until the advance and the return became clear to them. Those are the people, the Anṣār of the Prophet, and they are my people — I shall go to them when I am joined to them. They died nobly, and their covenants were not broken, and their killing was in the path of God when they were killed. The Expedition of Tabūk, the last expedition led by the Prophet ﷺ Section: On the fact that the Expedition of Tabūk was the last expedition. Ibn Isḥāq said: The Expedition of Tabūk was the last expedition led by the Messenger of God ﷺ.
