The Treaty of al-Hudaybiyah

Translation

✧ [Abū Baṣīr's Killing of the ʿĀmirī and the Messenger's Statement About That] He departed with the two of them, until when he was at Dhū al-Ḥulayfah, he sat down by a wall, and his two companions sat with him. Abū Baṣīr said: "Is this sword of yours sharp, O brother of Banū ʿĀmir?" He said: "Yes." He said: "May I look at it?" He said: "Look, if you wish." He said: "Then Abū Baṣīr drew it, then struck him with it until he killed him. The freedman went out quickly until he came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was sitting in the mosque. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw him coming, he said: "This man has seen something frightening." When he reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said: "Woe to you, what is the matter with you?" He said: "Your companion has killed my companion." By Allah, he had hardly finished when Abū Baṣīr appeared, girded with the sword, until he stood before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, your protection has been fulfilled, and Allah has discharged it on your behalf. You handed me over to the people, but I have defended myself by my religion from being tempted in it or being toyed with." He said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Woe to his mother, an inciter of war, if only he had men with him."
