The Expedition of Banu al-Mustaliq (al-Muraysi')

Translation

✧ [The Messenger and Usayd and the statement of Ibn Ubayy] Ibn Ishaq said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out and departed, Usayd b. Hudayr met him, greeted him with the greeting of prophethood and said salam to him, then said: O Prophet of Allah, by Allah, you have set out at a disapproved hour, one in which you do not usually set out. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: "Has not the statement of your companion reached you?" He said: "Which companion, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Abd Allah b. Ubayy." He said: "And what did he say?" He said: "He claimed that if he returns to Madinah, the mightier will surely expel from it the meaner." He said: "Then you, O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, will expel him from it if you wish. He, by Allah, is the meaner and you are the mightier." Then he said: "O Messenger of Allah, be gentle with him, for by Allah, Allah brought you to us while his people were stringing beads for him to crown him, and he thinks that you have robbed him of a kingdom."
