The Expedition of al-Khandaq (the Confederates)
وَرَوَى أَبُو يَعْلَى وَابْنُ عَسَاكِرَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ؓ، قَالَ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ الْخَنْدَقِ بِشَاةٍ فِي مِكْتَلٍ فَقَالَ: «يَا أَبَا رَافِعٍ، نَاوِلْنِي الذِّرَاعَ»، فَنَاوَلْتُهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «نَاوِلْنِي الذِّرَاعَ» فَنَاوَلْتُهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ: «نَاوِلْنِي الذِّرَاعَ»، فَنَاوَلْتُهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «نَاوِلْنِي الذِّرَاعَ»، فَنَاوَلْتُهُ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلِلشَّاةِ إِلَّا ذِرَاعَانِ ؟ ! قَالَ: «لَوْ سَكَتَّ سَاعَةً لَنَاوَلْتَنِيهِ مَا سَأَلْتُكَ».
Translation
✧ Abū Yaʿlā and Ibn ʿAsākir narrated, from ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Rāfiʿ, from his father ؓ, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of al-Khandaq with a sheep in a basket. He said: "O Abā Rāfiʿ, hand me the foreleg." So I handed it to him. Then he said: "Hand me the foreleg." So I handed it to him. Then he said: "Hand me the foreleg." So I handed it to him. Then he said: "Hand me the foreleg." So I handed it to him. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, does the sheep have anything but two forelegs?!" He said: "If you had kept silent for a while, you would have handed it to me as much as I asked you."
