The Expedition of Uḥud
Translation
✧ [The Killing of Mukhayrīq] Ibn Isḥāq said: Among those killed on the day of Uḥud was Mukhayrīq, who was one of the Banū Thaʿlabah b. al-Fiṭyūn. He said: When it was the day of Uḥud, he said: “O assembly of Jews, by God, you know that the victory of Muḥammad over you is true.” They said: “Today is the day of the Sabbath.” He said: “There is no Sabbath for you.” So he took his sword and his equipment, and said: “If I am struck down, then my wealth is for Muḥammad to do with as he wishes.” Then he went forth to the Messenger of God ﷺ and fought alongside him until he was killed. The Messenger of God ﷺ said—as it has reached us—: “Mukhayrīq is the best of the Jews.” Al-Suhaylī said: The Messenger of God ﷺ made the wealth of Mukhayrīq—which consisted of seven orchards—into endowments in Madinah. Muḥammad b. Kaʿb al-Quraẓī said: It was the first endowment in Madinah.
