The story of Salih (peace and blessings be upon him)
Translation
✧ As for the People of the Torah, they claim that there is no mention of ʿĀd, Hūd, Thamūd, or Ṣāliḥ in the Torah. He said: Their affair among the Arabs in the Jāhiliyyah and in Islam is as famous as that of Ibrāhīm al-Khalīl ﷺ. I say: Their denial of that is no stranger than their denial of the prophethood of Ibrāhīm al-Khalīl and his apostleship, and likewise their denial of the state of the Messiah ﷺ. But in the Qurʾān there is what indicates that Mūsā informed about them, as the Most High said in Sūrat Ibrāhīm: And Mūsā said, “If you disbelieve, you and whoever is on earth entirely, then indeed, Allah is Free of need, Praiseworthy. Has there not come to you the news of those before you – the people of Nūḥ and ʿĀd and Thamūd and those after them? No one knows them but Allah. Their messengers brought them clear proofs.” [Ibrāhīm: 8–9]. The apparent meaning is that this is part of the speech of Mūsā to his people, but since these two nations were from the Arabs, they did not record their news well, nor did they take care to preserve it, although their news was famous in the time of Mūsā ﷺ.
