✧ Abu Hurayrah passed by Marwan while he was building his house in the middle of the city. He said: I sat with him while the workers were working. He said: 'Build firmly, hope for a long life, and die soon.' Marwan said: 'Abu Hurayrah is speaking to the workers. What are you saying to them, O Abu Hurayrah?' He said: I said: 'Build firmly, hope for a long life, and die soon, O assembly of Quraysh — three times. Remember how you were yesterday and how you have become today: you are served by your slaves from Persia and Rome. Eat fine bread and fat meat, do not eat one another, and do not bite one another like the biting of workhorses. Be small today and you will be great tomorrow. By Allah, no man among you rises a degree except that Allah lowers him on the Day of Resurrection.'
