✧ 'Umar b. al-Khattab addressed us and said: 'The most frightening thing I fear for you after me is that an innocent man among you will be seized and marked as a camel is marked, and his flesh will be branded as its flesh is branded, and it will be said, "He is disobedient," while he is not disobedient.' He said: Then 'Ali b. Abi Talib, while he was beneath the pulpit, said: 'When will that be, O Commander of the Believers? When will affliction intensify, zeal appear, offspring be taken captive, and tribulations crush them as a mill crushes its husks, and as fire crushes firewood?' He said: 'When will that be, O 'Ali?' He said: 'When the one who seeks understanding does so for other than the religion, and the learner learns for other than action, and the world is sought by the deeds of the Hereafter.'
