✧ While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the expedition of Tabuk, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in a leather tent, I passed by and he heard my voice. He said: 'O 'Awf b. Malik, enter!' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, all of me or part of me?' He said: 'Rather, all of you.' He said: So I entered. He said: 'O 'Awf, count six things before the Hour.' I said: 'What are they, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'The death of the Messenger of Allah.' 'Awf wept. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Say: one.' I said: 'One.' Then he said: 'And the conquest of Jerusalem. Say: two.' I said: 'Two.' He said: 'And a death that will occur among my nation like the sudden death of sheep. Say: three.' I said: 'Three.' He said: 'And the world will be opened to them until a man is given a hundred and he despises it. Say: four.' I said: 'Four.' 'And a trial that will not leave any Muslim except that it will enter his house. Say: five.' I said: 'Five.' 'And a truce between you and the Banu al-Asfar. They will come to you under eighty banners, each banner with twelve thousand. Then they will betray you after the time equal to a woman's pregnancy.' He said: When the year of 'Amwas came, they claimed that 'Awf b. Malik said to Mu'adh b. Jabal: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: "Count six things before the Hour." Three of them have occurred and three remain.' Mu'adh said: 'This has a duration, but there are five that I warn you of. Whoever encounters any of them and is able to die, let him die: that mutual cursing will appear on the pulpits, Allah's wealth will be given for falsehood and slander and shedding blood without right, kinship ties will be severed, and a servant will wake up not knowing whether he is astray or guided.'
