أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْحَافِظُ ثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى ثَنَا يَحْيَى وَهُوَ ابْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ عَنْ عَامِرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُطِيعِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ يَقُولُ «لَا يُقْتَلَنَّ قُرَشِيٌّ بَعْدَ هَذَا الْيَوْمِ صَبْرًا إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ» قَالَ «وَلَمْ يُدْرِكْ أَحَدٌ مِنْ عُصَاةِ قُرَيْشٍ الْإِسْلَامَ غَيْرَ أَبِي» قَالَ «وَكَانَ اسْمُهُ الْعَاصِ فَسَمَّاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُطِيعًا»

✧ I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say on the day of the Conquest: "No Qurayshī shall be put to death by execution after this day until the Day of Resurrection." He said, "No one among the disobedient Quraysh embraced Islam except my father." He said, "His name was al-ʿĀṣ, so the Messenger of God ﷺ named him Muṭīʿ."
