✧ When Sulayman son of Dawud (peace and blessings be upon them) prayed a prayer, a tree would appear between his eyes. He would say to it: What are you, and for what thing have you appeared? It would say: I am the tree of such-and-such; I appeared for the disease of such-and-such. So when he prayed the morning prayer one day, a tree appeared between his eyes, and he said to it: What are you, and for what thing have you appeared? It said: I am al-Kharrub; I appeared for the ruin of this mosque. So Sulayman (peace and blessings be upon him) knew that his term had drawn near and that the Bayt al-Maqdis would not be ruined while he was alive. He called upon Allah, the Exalted, to cause the devil to faint regarding his death. The jinn used to claim that the devils knew the unseen. So he died upon his staff, and termites ate it, and he fell. Thus it became due upon the devils to bring water to the termites wherever they were, praising them in gratitude for what they did to Sulayman's staff.
