✧ I set out with my masters intending to emigrate, until we approached Madinah. They left me behind on their mounts and entered Madinah. I was struck by severe hunger. Some of the people of Madinah who passed by me said: If only you would enter one of the gardens of Madinah and get some of its dates. So I entered a garden, came to a palm tree, and cut two bunches of dates from it. Then the owner of the garden came and took me out until he brought me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He asked me about my situation, so I informed him. He said: "Which of the two is better?" I pointed to one of them. He ordered me to take it, and ordered the owner of the garden to take the other, and let me go.
