✧ I and a companion of mine entered upon Salman, and he brought us bread and salt. He said, "Were it not that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from affectation, I would have gone to extra trouble for you." My companion said, "If only our salt had thyme in it." So Salman sent his water-skin to the grocer and pawned it, and brought thyme and threw it into the salt. When we had eaten, my companion said, "Praise be to Allah who made us content with what He has provided us." Salman said, "If you had been content with what I was provided, my water-skin would not be in pawn at the grocer's."
