Translation

✧ ʿĀmir b. al-Ṭufayl never entered Madinah except with a guarantee of protection from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When the Prophet ﷺ came, the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "O ʿĀmir, submit and you will be safe." He said, "Yes, on condition that I have the settled land and you have the open land." He said, "This will not be. Submit and you will be safe." Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "O ʿĀmir, go until we consider your matter tomorrow." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent to the Anṣār and said, "What do you think? I have called this man, but he refuses to submit unless he has the settled land and I have the open land." They said, "Whatever Allah wills, then whatever you will, O Messenger of Allah. They have not taken from us even a rope for hobbling a camel except that we have taken from them two ropes. But Allah and His Messenger know best." Then ʿĀmir returned to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said to him, "Submit and you will be safe, O ʿĀmir." He said, "Nothing except that." And he refused unless he had the settled land and the Prophet ﷺ had the open land. The Prophet ﷺ refused. Then ʿĀmir said, "By Allah, I will fill it against you with horses and men." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah will prevent that from you, and the sons of the tribe of Aws and Khazraj." Then ʿĀmir turned away. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah, suffice me against him." So Allah struck him with a glandular swelling in the throat before he reached his family. When the swelling seized him, ʿĀmir said, "O family of ʿĀmir, this is a gland like the gland of a young camel. So he perished at the moment it seized him, before reaching his family."
