حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُنَادِي ثَنَا دَاودُ بْنُ مُحَبَّرٍ ثَنَا جِسْرُ بْنُ فَرْقَدٍ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ
لَمَّا مَاتَتْ رُقَيَّةُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَرَّ عُمَرُ بِعُثْمَانَ وَقَالَ هَلْ لَكَ فِي حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ عُمَرَ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ شَيْئًا فَأَتَى عُمَرُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَعَلَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى يَا عُمَرُ أَنْ يَأْتِيَكَ بِصِهْرٍ هُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ مِنْ عُثْمَانَ» فَتَزَوَّجُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِابْنَةِ عُمَرَ وَزَوَّجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُمَّ كُلْثُومٍ مِنْ عُثْمَانَ وَقَدْ كَانَ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ خَطَبَهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَخَطَبَهَا عُمَرُ فَلَمْ يُزَوِّجْهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «خَيْرُ الشَّفِيعِ لِعُثْمَانَ مَا أَنَا أُزَوِّجُ بَنَاتِي وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى يُزَوِّجُهُنَّ» حذفه الذهبي من التلخيص

✧ When Ruqayyah, daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, died, Umar passed by Uthman and said, "Would you like Hafsah, daughter of Umar?" But he did not answer him anything. So Umar came to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Perhaps Allah, the Exalted, O Umar, will bring you an in-law who is better for you than Uthman." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married the daughter of Umar, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married Umm Kulthum to Uthman. And before that, Abu Bakr had proposed to her and Umar had proposed to her, but he did not marry her to them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best intercessor for Uthman is that I do not marry my daughters, but Allah, the Exalted, marries them."
