حَدَّثَنَا بِشَرْحِ هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْجَهْمِ ثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَوْنٍ الدَّوْسِيِّ قَالَ
قَدِمَ النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي جَوْنِ الْكِنْدِيُّ وَكَانَ يَنْزِلُ وَبَنُو أَبِيهِ نَجْدًا مِمَّا يَلِي الشَّرْبَةَ فَقَدِمَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُسْلِمًا فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَلَا أُزَوِّجُكَ أَجْمَلَ أَيِّمٍ فِي الْعَرَبِ كَانَتْ تَحْتَ ابْنِ عَمٍّ لَهَا فَتُوُفِّيَ عَنْهَا فَتَأَيَّمَتْ وَقَدْ رَغِبَتْ فِيكَ وَخُطِبَتْ إِلَيْكَ فَتَزَوَّجَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى اثْنَتَيْ عَشْرَةَ أُوقِيَّةً وَنَشٍّ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَا تَقْصُرْ بِهَا فِي الْمَهْرِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَا أَصْدَقْتُ أَحَدًا مِنْ نِسَائِي فَوْقَ هَذَا وَلَا أُصَدِّقُ أَحَدًا مِنْ بَنَاتِي فَوْقَ هَذَا» فَقَالَ النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي جَوْنٍ فَفِيكَ الْأَسَى فَقَالَ فَابْعَثْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِلَى أَهْلِكَ مَنْ يحْمِلُهُمْ إِلَيْكَ فَإِنِّي خَارِجٌ مَعَ رَسُولِكَ فَمُرْسِلٌ أَهْلَكَ مَعَهُ فَبَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَبَا أُسَيْدٍ السَّاعِدِيَّ فَلَمَّا قَدِمَا عَلَيْهَا جَلَسَتْ فِي بَيْتِهَا وَأَذِنَتْ لَهُ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ فَقَالَ أَبُو أُسَيْدٍ إِنَّ نِسَاءَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَا يُرَاهِنَّ الرِّجَالَ قَالَ أَبُو أُسَيْدٍ وَذَلِكَ بَعْدَ أَنْ نَزَلَ الْحِجَابَ فَأَرْسَلْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَيَسَّرَ لِي أَمْرِي قَالَ حِجَابُ بَيْنِكِ وَبَيْنَ مَنْ تُكَلَّمِينَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ إِلَّا ذَا مَحْرَمٍ مِنْكِ فَقَبِلَتْ فَقَالَ أَبُو أُسَيْدٍ فَأَقَمْتُ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ تَحَمَّلْتُ مَعَ الظَّعِينَةِ عَلَى جَمَلٍ فِي مِحَفَّةٍ فَأَقْبَلْتُ بِهَا حَتَّى قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَأَنْزَلْتُهَا فِي بَنِي سَاعِدَةَ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا نِسَاءُ الْحَيِّ فَرَحَّبْنَ بِهَا وَسَهَّلْنَ وَخَرَجْنَ مِنْ عِنْدِهَا فَذَكَرْنَ جَمَالَهَا وَشَاعَ ذَلِكَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ وَتَحَدَّثُوا بِقُدُومِهَا قَالَ أَبُو أُسَيْدٍ السَّاعِدِيُّ وَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ فِي بَنِي عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفٍ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ وَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا دَاخِلٌ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ لِمَا بَلَغَهُنَّ مِنْ جَمَالِهَا وَكَانَتْ مِنْ أَجْمَلِ النِّسَاءِ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّكِ مِنَ الْمُلُوكِ فَإِنْ كُنْتِ تُرِيدِينَ أَنْ تَحْظِي عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَاسْتَعِيذِي مِنْهُ فَإِنَّكِ تَحْظِينَ عِنْدَهُ وَيَرْغَبُ فِيكِسنده واه

✧ Al-Nu'man b. Abi al-Jawn al-Kindi came forward. He and the sons of his father used to dwell in Najd, in the area adjacent to al-Sharba. He came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as a Muslim and said: O Messenger of Allah, shall I not marry you to the most beautiful previously married woman among the Arabs? She had been under a cousin of hers who died, leaving her a widow, and she has desired you and has been proposed to on your behalf. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married her for twelve uqiyyas and a nashsh. He said: O Messenger of Allah, do not be remiss with her regarding the dowry. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: «I have not given as a dowry to any of my wives more than this, nor will I give as a dowry to any of my daughters more than this.» Al-Nu'man b. Abi al-Jawn said: In you there is the medicine [or: the cure]. He said: So send, O Messenger of Allah, to your family someone who will bring them to you, for I am going out with your messenger and will send your family with him. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abu Usayd al-Sa'idi. When they arrived at her place, she sat in her house and gave him permission to enter. Abu Usayd said: The wives of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ are not seen by men. Abu Usayd said: And that was after the hijab had been revealed. She sent to him: Make my affair easy for me. He said: A screen between you and any men you speak to, except for one who is a mahram of yours. She accepted. Abu Usayd said: I stayed three days, then I set out with the woman in a howdah on a camel, and I brought her until I arrived in Madinah. I lodged her among the Banu Sa'ida. The women of the neighborhood entered upon her, welcomed her, and made things easy, then left her, mentioning her beauty. That spread in Madinah, and they talked about her arrival. Abu Usayd al-Sa'idi said: I returned to the Prophet ﷺ while he was among the Banu 'Amr b. 'Awf and informed him. A woman entered upon her, for the women had heard of her beauty, and she was among the most beautiful of women. She said: You are one of the royal women, so if you want to be favored with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, seek refuge from him, for you will be favored with him and he will desire you. Its chain is weak.
