حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَمْشَاذٍ الْعَدْلُ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْقَاضِي قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ دَاودَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ عَنْ عَامِرٍ قَالَ
كَانَتْ زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ جَحْشٍ تَقُولُ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَا أَعْظَمُ نِسَائِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا أَنَا خَيْرُهُنَّ مَنْكَحًا وَأَلْزَمُهُنَّ سِتْرًا وَأَقْرَبُهُنَّ رَحِمًا ثُمَّ تَقُولُ زَوَّجَنِيكَ الرَّحْمَنُ ﷻ مِنْ فَوْقِ عَرْشِهِ وَكَانَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ هُوَ السَّفِيرُ بِذَلِكَ وَأَنَا ابْنَةُ عَمَّتِكَ وَلَيْسَ لَكَ مِنْ نِسَائِكَ قَرِيبَةً غَيْرِي «قَدْ ذَكَرْتُ فِي أَوَّلِ التَّرْجَمَةِ أَنَّ أُمَّ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ أُمَيْمَةُ بِنْتُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ هَاشِمٍ وَهِيَ عَمَّةُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ»

✧ Zainab bint Jahsh used to say to the Prophet ﷺ: "I am the greatest of your wives in right upon you. I am the best of them in marriage, the most observant of concealment, and the closest of them in kinship." Then she would say: "The Most Merciful ﷻ married me to you from above His Throne, and Jibril (peace and blessings be upon him) was the emissary for that. I am the daughter of your paternal aunt, and you have no close relative among your wives besides me." [Al-Hakim said:] "I mentioned at the beginning of the biographical entry that the mother of Zainab bint Jahsh is Umaymah bint Abdul-Muttalib b. Hashim, and she is the paternal aunt of the Prophet ﷺ."
