فَأَخْبَرَنِي مَخْلَدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْبَاقَرْحِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ الْفَقِيهُ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
«بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَمْرَو بْنَ أُمَيَّةَ الضَّمْرِيَّ إِلَى النَّجَاشِيِّ يَخْطُبُ عَلَيْهِ أُمَّ حَبِيبَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ وَكَانَتْ تَحْتَ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَحْشٍ فَزَوَّجَهَا إِيَّاهُ وَأَصْدَقَهَا النَّجَاشِيُّ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَرْبَعَمِائَةِ دِينَارٍ» قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ «فَمَا نَرَى عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ بْنَ مَرْوَانَ وَقَّتَ صَدَاقَ النِّسَاءِ أَرْبَعَمِائَةِ دِينَارٍ إِلَّا لِذَلِكَ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent 'Amr b. Umayyah al-Damri to the Negus to propose on his behalf to Umm Habibah bt. Abi Sufyan, who was then married to 'Ubayd Allah b. Jahsh. The Negus gave her in marriage to him and paid on behalf of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a dowry of four hundred dinars from his own wealth." Abu Ja'far Muhammad b. Jarir said: "We do not think 'Abd al-Malik b. Marwan set the dowry of women at four hundred dinars except for that reason."
