حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَمْشَاذٍ الْعَدْلُ ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ السَّدُوسِيُّ ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ قَالَ أُيِّمَتْ حَفْصَةُ بِنْتُ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ مِنْ زَوْجِهَا وَعُثْمَانُ مِنْ رُقَيَّةَ فَمَرَّ عُمَرُ بِعُثْمَانَ فَقَالَ
هَلْ لَكَ فِي حَفْصَةَ؟ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنِّي وَلَمْ يُحِرْ إلَيَّ شَيْئًا فَأَتَى عُمَرُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَشَكَاهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «فَخَيْرٌ مِنْ ذَلِكَ أَتَزَوَّجُ أَنَا حَفْصَةَ وَأُزَوِّجُ عُثْمَانَ أُمَّ كُلْثُومٍ» فَتَزَوَّجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ حَفْصَةَ وَزَوَّجَ عُثْمَانُ أُمَّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺسكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

✧ "Would you like Hafsa?" He turned away from me and did not answer me. Umar went to the Prophet ﷺ and complained about him. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Better than that: I will marry Hafsa, and I will marry Uthman to Umm Kulthum." So the Prophet ﷺ married Hafsa, and Uthman married Umm Kulthum, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
