حَدَّثَنَاهُ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ أَنْبَأَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ وَأَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُوسَى ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ قَالَا ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ وَاصِلِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ الرَّقَاشِيِّ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ وَابْنِ سَوْرَةَ عَنْ عَمِّهِ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ قَالَ
قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَنْ هَؤُلَاءِ الَّذِينَ {فِيهِ رِجَالٌ يُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يَتَطَهَّرُوا وَاللَّهُ يُحِبُّ الْمُطَّهِّرِينَ} [التوبة 108] قَالَ «كَانُوا يَسْتَنْجُونَ بِالْمَاءِ وَكَانُوا لَا يَنَامُونَ اللَّيْلَ كُلَّهُ» هَذَا آخِرُ مَا انْتَهَى إِلَيْنَا مِنْ «كِتَابِ الطَّهَارَةِ» عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ مَا لَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ

✧ They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, who are those about whom [it is said], "In it are men who love to purify themselves, and Allah loves those who purify themselves" [al-Tawbah 108]?' He said: 'They used to clean themselves with water, and they used not to sleep the whole night.' This is the last that has reached us from the Book of Purification according to the condition of the two Shaykhs, what they have not included.
