حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَمْشَاذٍ الْعَدْلُ ثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ حَدَّثَنِي الزُّبَيْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى عَنْ أَبِي الْحُوَيْرِثِ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ بْنَ مَرْوَانَ يَقُولُ لِلْقَبَاثِ بْنِ أَشْيَمَ يَا قَبَاثُ أَنْتَ أَكْبَرُ أَمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ بَلْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَكْبَرُ مِنِّي وَأَنَا أَسَنُّ مِنْهُ «وُلِدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَامَ الْفِيلِ وَتَنَبَّأَ عَلَى رَأْسِ الْأَرْبَعِينَ مِنَ الْفِيلِ» سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

✧ I heard ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Marwān say to Qabāth ibn Ashyam: O Qabāth, are you older or is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is greater than me, and I am older than him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was born in the Year of the Elephant, and he received prophethood at the end of the fortieth year after the Elephant. Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhīṣ.
