حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ السَّكُونِيُّ بِالْكُوفَةِ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ تَسْنِيمٍ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ الْأَسَدِيُّ ثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ حَدِّثْنِي بِحَدِيثٍ يُعْجِبُنِي قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي خُرَيْمُ بْنُ فَاتِكٍ الْأَسَدِيُّ قَالَ
خَرَجْتُ فِي إِبِلٍ لِي فَأَصَابَتْهَا بَرْقُ عُرَاقَةَ فَعَلَّقَتْهَا وَتَوَسَّدْتُ ذِرَاعَ بَعِيرٍ مِنْهَا وَذَلِكَ حِدْثَانَ خُرُوجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ ثُمَّ قُلْتُ أَعُوذُ بِعَظِيمِ هَذَا الْوَادِي قَالَ وَكَذَلِكَ كَانُوا يَصْنَعُونَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَإِذَا هَاتِفٌ يَهْتِفُ بِي وَيَقُولُ [البحر الرجز] وَيْحَكَ عُذْ بِاللَّهِ ذِي الْجَلَالِ مُنْزِلِ الْحَرَامِ وَالْحَلَالِ وَوَحِّدِ اللَّهَ وَلَا تُبَالِ مَا هُوَ ذُو الْحَزْمِ مِنَ الْأَهْوَالِ إِذْ يَذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ عَلَى الْأَمْيَالِ وَفِي سُهُولِ الْأَرْضِ وَالْجِبَالِ وَمَا وَكِيلُ الْحَقِّ فِي سِفَالٍ إِلَّا التُّقَى وَصَالِحَ الْأَعْمَالِ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ [البحر الرجز] يَا أَيُّهَا الدَّاعِي بِمَا يُحِيلُ رُشْدٌ يُرَى عِنْدَكَ أَمْ تَضْلِيلُ فَقَالَ هَذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ذُو الْخَيْرَاتِ جَاءَ بِيَاسِينَ وَحَامِيمَاتِ فِي سُوَرٍ بَعْدُ مُفَصَّلَاتِ مُحَرِّمَاتٍ وَمُحَلِّلَاتِ يَأْمُرُ بِالصَّوْمِ وَالصَّلَاةِ وَيَزْجُرُ النَّاسَ عَنِ الْهَنَاتِ قَدْ كُنَّ فِي الْأَيَّامِ مُنْكَرَاتِ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ مَنْ أَنْتَ يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ قَالَ أَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنْ أَرْضِ أَهْلِ نَجْدَةَ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ لَوْ كَانَ لِي مَنْ يَكْفِينِي إِبِلِي هَذِهِ لَأَتَيْتُهُ حَتَّى أُؤْمِنَ بِهِ فَقَالَ أَنَا أَكْفِيكَهَا حَتَّى أُؤَدِّيَهَا إِلَى أَهْلِكَ سَالِمَةً إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى فَاعْتَقَلْتُ بَعِيرًا مِنْهَا ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَوَافَقْتُ النَّاسَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَهُمْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَقُلْتُ يَقْضُونَ صَلَاتَهُمْ ثُمَّ أَدْخُلُ فَإِنِّي لَذَاهِبٌ أُنِيخُ رَاحِلَتِي إِذْ خَرَجَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ فَقَالَ يَقُولُ لَكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «ادْخُلْ» فَدَخَلْتُ فَلَمَّا رَآنِي قَالَ مَا فَعَلَ الشَّيْخُ الَّذِي ضَمِنَ لَكَ أَنْ يُؤَدِّيَ إِبِلَكَ إِلَى أَهْلِكَ سَالِمَةً أَمَا أَنَّهُ قَدْ أَدَّاهَا إِلَى أَهْلِكَ سَالِمَةً قُلْتُ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَجَلْ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ» فَقَالَ خُرَيْمُ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحَسُنَ إِسْلَامُهُلم يصح

✧ I went out with some camels of mine, and lightning at 'Uraqa struck them, so I hobbled them and used the foreleg of one of them as a pillow. That was at the time of the Prophet's ﷺ emergence. Then I said, "I seek refuge in the great one of this valley." He said, "That is what they used to do in the Jahiliyya." Then a caller called out to me, saying: [rajaz] "Woe to you! Seek refuge in Allah, Possessor of Majesty, who sends down the sacred and the lawful. Declare Allah's oneness and do not care about the horrors of the resolute, when they mention Allah over the miles, in the plains and the mountains. The trustee of truth in the lowly is none but piety and righteous deeds." I said: [rajaz] "O you who call with what changes: is it guidance seen with you or misguidance?" He said, "This is Allah's Messenger, possessor of good, who has come with Ya Sin and the Ha Mim surahs, in surahs thereafter detailed, making things forbidden and lawful. He commands fasting and prayer and restrains people from sins that were abominable in those days." I said, "Who are you, may Allah have mercy on you?" He said, "I am Malik b. Malik. Allah's Messenger ﷺ sent me from the land of the people of Najd." I said, "If only someone would take care of these camels of mine, I would go to him and believe in him." He said, "I will take care of them until I deliver them to your family safe, if Allah Almighty wills." So I mounted one of them and came to Madinah. I found the people on Friday while they were in prayer, so I said, "They will finish their prayer, then I will enter." As I was about to make my mount kneel, Abu Dharr came out and said, "Allah's Messenger ﷺ tells you: 'Enter.'" So I entered. When he saw me, he said, "What did the old man who guaranteed to deliver your camels to your family safe do? Indeed, he has delivered them safe." I said, "May Allah have mercy on him." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Yes, may Allah have mercy on him." Khuraim said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah," and his Islam became good. It is not authentic.
