أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ بِالْكُوفَةِ ثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ الْغِفَارِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الشَّيْخُ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ أَنْبَأَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ قَالَا ثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثَنَا حَشْرَجُ بْنُ نُبَاتَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ سَفِينَةَ عَنِ اسْمِهِ فَقَالَ
أَمَا «إِنِّي مُخْبِرُكَ بِاسْمِي كَانَ اسْمِي قَيْسًا فَسَمَّانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَفِينَةَ» قُلْتُ لِمَ سَمَّاكَ سَفِينَةَ؟ قَالَ خَرَجَ وَمَعَهُ أَصْحَابُهُ فَثَقُلَ عَلَيْهِمْ مَتَاعُهُمْ فَقَالَ ابْسُطْ كِسَاءَكَ فَبَسَطْتُهُ فَجَعَلَ فِيهِ مَتَاعَهُمْ ثُمَّ حَمَلَهُ عَلَيَّ فَقَالَ احْمِلْ مَا أَنْتَ إِلَّا سَفِينَةُ فَقَالَ لَوْ حَمَلْتُ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَقْرَ بَعِيرٍ أَوْ بَعِيرَيْنِ أَوْ خَمْسَةٍ أَوْ سِتَّةٍ مَا ثَقُلَ عَلَيَّ صَحِيحُ الْإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُصحيح
Translation

✧ He said: "Indeed I will tell you my name. My name was Qays, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ named me Safinah." I said: Why did he name you Safinah? He said: He went out with his companions, and their baggage became heavy for them. He said: Spread your cloak. I spread it, and he put their baggage in it, then placed it on me and said: "Carry, for you are nothing but a ship (safinah)." He said: If I had carried that day the load of a camel or two or five or six, it would not have been heavy for me. The chain of transmission is authentic, but they did not record it. Sahih.
