حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ عِيسَى ثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ ثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَنْبَأَ جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ مُوسَى قَالَ

لَمَّا دَخَلَ أَنَسٌ عَلَى الْحَجَّاجِ أَمَرَ بِوَجْئِ عُنُقِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا أَهْلَ الشَّامِ أَتَعْرِفُونَ هَذَا؟ هَذَا خَادِمُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَتَدْرُونَ لِمَ وَجَأْتُ عُنُقَهُ؟ قَالُوا الْأَمِيرُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ إِنَّهُ كَانَ بَيْنَ الْبَلَاءِ فِي الْفِتْنَةِ الْأُولَى وَغَاشَ الصَّدْرَ فِي الْفِتْنَةِ الْآخِرَةِ سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

✧ When Anas entered upon al-Hajjaj, he ordered that his neck be struck. Then he said, “O people of Syria, do you know this man? This is the servant of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” Then he said, “Do you know why I struck his neck?” They said, “The governor knows best.” He said, “He was among the affliction in the first fitnah and he harbored rancor in the last fitnah.” Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
