أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الصَّفَّارُ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ ثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَنْبَأَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ عَنْ أَبِي عَمْرِو بْنِ حِمَاسٍ عَنْ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

تَلَوْتُ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ {لَنْ تَنَالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتَّى تُنْفِقُوا مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ} [آل عمران 92] فَذَكَرْتُ مَا أَعْطَانِي اللَّهُ تَعَالَى فَمَا وَجَدْتُ شَيْئًا أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ جَارِيَتِي رَضِيَّةَ فَقُلْتُ هِيَ حُرَّةٌ لِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ ﷻ فَلَوْلَا أَنِّي لَا أَعُودُ فِي شَيْءٍ جَعَلْتُهُ لِلَّهِ ﷻ لَنَكَحْتُهَا فَأَنْكَحَهَا نَافِعٌ فَهِيَ أُمُّ وَلَدِهِ

✧ I recited this verse: 'You will not attain righteousness until you spend from what you love' [Al Imran 92], and I remembered what Allah Almighty had given me. I found nothing dearer to me than my slave girl Radiyyah, so I said: 'She is free for the sake of Allah ﷻ.' Were it not that I do not go back on anything I have devoted to Allah ﷻ, I would have married her. Then Nafi' married her, and she became the mother of his child.
