حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْبَاقِي بْنُ قَانِعٍ الْحَافِظُ ثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْيَزِيدِيُّ ثَنَا أَبُو حَسَّانَ الزِّيَادِيُّ ثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ الْكَلْبِيُّ قَالَ
عَوْفُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ وَجَّهَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حِينَ نَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ الصَّدَقَةُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقَ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ لِعَوْفٍ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى قَدْ أَنْزَلَ الصَّدَقَةَ قَالَ وَمَا الصَّدَقَةُ؟ قَالَ مِنْ كُلِّ أَرْبَعِينَ نَاقَةٌ نَاقَةٌ قَالَ فَاعْتَرَضْنَا فَخُذْ نَاقَةً فَاعْتَرَضَهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَأَخَذَ نَاقَةً لِرَحْلِهِ فَقَالَ عَوْفٌ إِنَّهَا لَرَحْلِي فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ إِنَّهَا لَأَعْظَمُ لِأَجْرِكَ قَالَ فَسُقْ حِقَّهَا فَسَاقَهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَحِقَّهَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرَهُ بِصَنِيعِ عَوْفٍ وَقَوْلِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «ارْجِعْ إِلَيْهِ فَأَخْبِرْهُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ بَنِي لَهُ بَيْتًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ»

✧ Awf b. Malik al-Ashjai: When the zakat was revealed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he sent Abu Bakr al-Siddiq to him. Abu Bakr said to Awf, "Allah Almighty has revealed the zakat." He said, "And what is the zakat?" He said, "From every forty camels, one camel." He said, "Then select for us, and take a camel." So Abu Bakr selected a camel and took a camel for his riding saddle. Awf said, "Indeed, that is my riding camel." Abu Bakr said to him, "Indeed, it is greater for your reward." He said, "Then drive its young one." So Abu Bakr drove it and its young one to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him of Awf's deed and statement. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Return to him and inform him that Allah has built a house for him in Paradise."
