✧ A man was injured during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and it caused him to have a state of impurity (janabah). He sought advice and was instructed to perform a ritual washing (ghusl), which he did. However, he died afterwards. When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was informed about this, he said, "They killed him, may Allah kill them. Wasn't the washing of the affected area sufficient for him?" Ata, a companion of the Prophet, reported that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was asked about this incident later on and he replied, "If he had washed his body and left the area affected by the injury, it would have been sufficient for him."

machine translationNo one narrated it from ʿAṭāʾ from Jābir except al-Zubayr b. Khurayq, and he is not strong (laysa bi-l-qawī). Al-Awzāʿī contradicted him and narrated it from ʿAṭāʾ from Ibn ʿAbbās, and that is the correct version (al-ṣawāb).

Al-Awzāʿī contradicted him and narrated it from ʿAṭāʾ from Ibn ʿAbbās, and that is the correct version (al-ṣawāb). There is disagreement about al-Awzāʿī: it was said, "from ʿAṭāʾ," and it was said, "it reached me from ʿAṭāʾ." Al-Awzāʿī transmitted its ending as a mursal report, saying, "from ʿAṭāʾ from the Prophet ﷺ," and that is the correct version.
