✧ I had a wet dream on a cold night during the campaign of Dhat al-Salasil. I feared that if I performed the full bath, I would perish, so I performed tayammum and then led my companions in the dawn prayer. They mentioned this to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, “O ‘Amr, did you lead your companions in prayer while you were in a state of major ritual impurity?” I told him what had prevented me from bathing, and I said, “I heard that Allah says: ‘And do not kill yourselves, for Allah is ever Merciful to you’ [Qur’an 4:29].” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed and did not say anything. This hadith of Jarir b. Hazim does not invalidate the hadith of ‘Amr b. al-Harith, which connected it by mentioning Abu Qays, for the people of Egypt know their hadith better than the people of Basra.
